Online Social Networking For Kids
They are almost everywhere. In fact, online social networking websites are the most popular websites nowadays. Let us examine each one of them. First, let’s talk about Myspace. Clearly, this one of the most popular and most successful online networking sites ever created. With hundreds and hundreds of thousands of users creating a new account to this site every single day, finding a new friend around your area or even from several parts of the globe is just so easy. All kids need to do is to create an online account for free, which will require them to supply some personal information. Kids need not to worry though because all the information that will be supplied will be kept at strictest confidentiality.
However, it will be best if kids that are under the age of thirteen won’t register yet for security reasons (though many kids nowadays just lie about their real age just to be able to create their own account on Myspace). After filling up some forms and confirming one’s registration, then all is set and done! A kiddie Myspace user can now start adding friends to his account just by a simple click of the button or even invite other friends to join the fast-growing Myspace community. He or she can also start posting and receiving some comments from other people. Moreover, he or she will also have the power to design his or her own page using some basic HTML codes that are widely scattered all over the Internet (just copy and paste the codes!). Indeed, on this particular networking site, every user has the power to design and interact as freely as he or she wants!
It will be best for kids to seek the help or attention of their parents or guardians while they are creating a Myspace account or any other online networking account for their own safety. On Myspace, if you are a user that is fifteen years old and below, your profile page is automatically set to private. This means that no one can view your page except you and the friends that you added to your account. If a particular user that you’ve added as a friend or any stranger on that site harasses you, you can immediately report that user or even block him or her so you’ll be left in peace. You also have the option to delete your own Myspace account any time if you think that it is not doing you any good.
There are many other online networking sites out there, like the equally famous sites of Friendster and Facebook. Friendster is also a great site to socialize with other people and meet new friends. It also has some features that the site of Myspace is using, although this site is also trying to launch their own special programs or services that it can offer to its own users. One user can also leave a testimonial from one page to another. Facebook is also a networking site that is garnering a wide popularity because of the cool style and features it displays to many people. It is recommendable for users who want to keep their privacy intact and only let their added contacts know the current activities they’ve done, what they are currently doing and what will they possibly do in the future.
